The V6-engines B284/A28 suffer from unusual wear and early stretch in the timing chains.
The old design with 6 segments divided in a 4-2 configuration would divide the pull force unevenly with 33% and 67% on every other chain link, alternating load between the center part and outer parts of the sprockets.
The new design may, thanks to an increase of almost 20% in segmentations and a more even internal spread in the links, reduce this imbalance in load. Combined with a reduced overall play in the design, the result is a very strong chain in 4-3 configuration that our extensive testing doesn't indicate any early stretch and no unusual wear, not even in the extreme race engines with stronger springs and high revs we've build with these chains.
